Partnerships
Scoil Chormaic are working in partnership with others
to promote an active school community. In school
we have formed an Active School Flag Committee.
Patrick Tate (student) and Cheilla McGrath are the
designated PE Equipment Monitors.
Scoil Chormaic has forged links with local Sports
Clubs including Larkspur Park and Cashel Rugby Club.
The school also uses the local swimming pools to
facilitate aquatics. This includes Clonmel Swimming
Pool, Clonmel Park Hotel, Canon Hayes Centre and
Thurles Leisure Centre. The school also makes use of
a local fitness gym.
Last year, the school worked with the Tipperary
school Partnership which included Cycle Safety and
Yoga classes.
Scoil Chormaic uses local natural amenities including
Dundrum Woods, Rockwell College lake walk and the
Rock of Cashel.
November 2019
Disability Inclusion Training
On Saturday 9th November, Paudie, Cheilla and Lisa attended a
training course in Littleton, Co. Tipperary. The course was facilitated
by the Cara Centre and Sport Ireland. The aim of the course was to
provide us with more ideas on how to adapt and modify physical
activity lessons to ensure they are inclusive for all abilities. We were
trained in the TREE principle- teaching style, rules and regulations,
equipment and environment. We came away from the course with
more knowledge and a bank of activities.
FAI Coaching Session
On the 26th of November, on a wet day, we were delighted to
welcome James Scott to our school. James joined us from the FAI
Munster Development Program to conduct a coaching course with our
U-15 mixed soccer team. James was excellent and despite the rain all
of the students and staff enjoyed taking part in the training drills and
of course the all important soccer game at the end of the session! We
would like to thank James again for giving his time and also for his
kindness and enthusiasm. Also, thank you to our resident U-15 soccer
coach, Paudie for arranging this for our students. We all look forward
to a return visit from James soon.
January 2019
In January, Stephen Quinn visited our school to give a football
coaching session. Stephen is the FAI’s South Tipperary Development
Officer.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the training session.
June 2019
5K Run/Walk
On sunday 9th June, Scoil Chormaic hosted our first 5K run/walk.
We were overwhelmed with the support we received on the day. We
were delighted to see so many students, families, friends and
members of athletic clubs participate on the day. Tony Fogarty
Burke, Michael J Ryan and Gauril Corduneahn placed first, second
and third. Linda Grogan, Aine Roche and Karen Coughlan were first,
second and third for the ladies. We would also like to extend our
thanks to local sportsperson Denis Leamy who helped get the race
started. As the 5K was such a huge success with a positive
community spirit, we are hoping to make it an annual event. This
was an excellent medium through which to forge partnerships with
parents, families, local people, local businesses and local sports
clubs.
