Physical Activities In Scoil Chormaic, we promote physical activity throughout the school week. In the Junior School, these activities include soccer, dance hurling, swimming, Jacuzzi, go karting, occupational therapy gym, nature walks, historical walks, walks to the school farm, trampoline and class PE sessions. In the Senior school, there is Senior Soccer, basketball, gym work outs, GAA, athletics, swimming, dance, badminton and class PE sessions.
Physical Activity January 2020 – 10@10 In January, each class was encouraged to take part in the 10@10.  This is a ten minute physical exercise at 10am each day.    This program shows us how a little exercise can make a big difference.    The students really enjoy this activity and because it is classroom based it is not weather dependent.  Well done to all students who participated! November/December 2019 For four weeks, both Junior and Senior school took part in the Active Breaks initiative.  Each class committed to an active break everyday for the duration of the four weeks.  This could be in the form of a running, dance or exercise break.    Well done to all classes for embracing this initiative.
FAI Football For All November 2019 Three of our senior students, Cillian, Patrick and Craig, attended soccer trials in Carrigaline, Co. Cork. Craig and Patrick will now go on to represent our school at Munster level. They look forward to playing for Munster in the Inter-provincial competition which will be held in Dublin in February. From this competition, scouts will pick players for the Irish National Soccer Team. We wish the boys every success. Girls Basketball The Scoil Chormaic girls basketball team travelled to Tralee on Wednesday 23rd October to take part in the Munster Basketball Blitz. A Junior Tean (U-16) and a Novice team participated. For some of these students, it was their first time taking part in this blitz. The Novice team played four matches ans showed great skill. The Junior team played three matches and reached the final against Tralee. It was a thrilling game and very close. Tralee emerged the winners. The girls will now qualify for the All-Ireland Blitz in Dublin next March. A fantastic day was had by all. The Most Valuable Player Award went to Megan for the Novice team and to Maria for the Junior team. Halloween Active Disco 2019 On Thursday, we actively enjoyed Halloween by hosting a Junior and Senior Halloween Disco. The students surprised and scared us in eequal measure with an array of terrific costumes. A great day of dancing was enjoyed by our students! Primary Schools Cross Country 2019 The end of September was a very important and exciting time for 7 pupils in our school. They travelled to the Thurles Crokes Complex to take part in the annual Cross Country Race. The excitement on the journey there was palpable! They took part in the 5th and 6th class category. This race saw the students run an amazing 1,000 metres! A huge thank you to Cheilla and Paudie for helping everyone to prepare for this huge feat! A great day was had by all!
European School Sports Day 2019 On Friday 27th September, our school took part in the European School Sports Day.     We named our event Fitness Friday.  All students participated in an aerobic session and we also ‘Walked the Year!’    This was an initiative to encourage students to walk 2,019 metres around the school Astroturf.  The day coincided with the arrival of no less than three cups which were The Ladies Intermediate Football Cup – Mary Quinn Memorial, the Under 20 hurling cup – James Nowlan and the Senior Hurling cup – Liam McCarthy.     A great sporting day was had by all! June 2019 Soccer Blitz The school Soccer Blitz is a highly anticipated annual event.  The main organiser of the event is Cheilla McGrath.  This year there were 12 teams involved.  The local clubs support the event by giving us the use of their jerseys.    This is a wonderful partnership with the local clubs and really adds to the event.  Each participant receives a medal and the winners receive a much sought after trophy! Congratulations to ‘Liverpool’, who were our champions this year.
May 2019 Skipping Workshop On Friday May 24th, Mark McCabe from Skip N Rope came to our school to do a skipping workshop.    He ran a number of sessions throughout the day.    The students were very enthusiastic and participated in the individual skipping and the long rope. May 2019 Athletics The Munster Inter-Schools Athletics took place on Wednesday the 15th of May, in C.I.T. Athletics Track, Cork.  32 students travelled to participate in a variety of races and events.  It was a fantastic day, all the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and several took home medals! April 2019 Sports Day On Wednesday 10th April, St. Joseph’s School in Waterford hosted a Sports Fun Day.  A group of students from our school attended and participated in a number of different races and games.    Each student received a medal for their hard work.  Our students thoroughly enjoyed the day. April 2019 Our Playground Leaders    March 2019 Swimming Gala On the 5th March, some of our senior students attended the Annual Munster Inter-Schools Swimming competition.  This was held at Mayfield Community Pool.  We were lucky to win a number of medals on the day from a variety of events.    A big well done to all involved.
March 2019 Daily Mile On March 28th 2019, Frank Greally from Athletics Ireland and Aoife Dunphy from the Tipperary Sports Partnership visited our school to launch The Daily Mile. The Daily Mile is an initiative to encourage more physical activity. The aim is to incorporate 15 minutes of walking, running or jogging into the school day. We have been doing the Daily mile for a number of weeks and Frank was delighted to see our progress. He gave an informative talk, showed us a video and also took part in the Daily Mile with our students and staff.
